Electronic trio Blood Wine or Honey have honed their distinctive hypno-tropicalia sound in theindustrial warehouses and hidden rural settlements of Hong Kong, surrounded by the low-end throb of heavy machinery, the scent of dried fish and the humidity of the South China Sea. Seasoned multi-instrumentalists James Banbury (synths, bass, cello), Shane Aspegren (drums, synths, electronics) and Joseph von Hess (saxophone, percussion, winds) create a witch’s brew of brazen sax themes, lo-fi/hi-tech electronics and motorik drums. Their group-sung chants, wonky tactics and party palpitations invoke a ritualistic, euphoric encounter that takes notes from post-punk, tropical polyrhythms, dance floor experimentation and bass/sound-system music.
After their live debut at Sonar Festival in 2017, BWoH's breakout track 'Anxious Party People' (Plastic Pagan 2017) shook dance floors all over the world, receiving a 'Track Of The Year’
nomination at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards and catching the attention of major radio outlets such as BBC 6 Music (UK), Radio Nova (FR), Worldwide FM, Beats In Space (US), RTE (IE), Radio Bern (CH), NTS, Radio X (DE), CR2 903 (HK) and Bandcamp Weekly. Following two enthusiastically received EPs— 'Anxious Party People' and 'Loosefoot'—the band's hotly anticipated debut album 'Fear & Celebration' was released on Do Right! in 2018, garnering a 4-star review in Mojo magazine and 'Vinyl Of The Month' at The Arts Desk. BWoH's recent track 'Brilliant Pebbles', was snapped up by Howie B's legendary Pussyfoot label for their much-lauded relaunch compilation, 'Space is the Plaice', while 2019 began with a blistering remix for the rising On The Corner label: taking Khalab's 'Dense' and providing a work-over that has already woven its magic in basement raves worldwide. This was swiftly followed by a remix of BWoH's own track 'The Forest Is Expecting You'—out on OtC's 'Versus III'—from the mighty Hieroglyphic Being.
Summer 2019 brings a brand new track for Pussyfoot, 'Tomorrow', dropping on 12” alongside a rash of remixes from a carefully selected coterie of global producers and music-makers.
